Dental Veneers and How They Are Used to Improve The Appearance of Teeth
Dental veneers are the latest, and best, of devices that can correct minor tooth defects. These porcelain veneers are extremely malleable, which makes them perfect for correcting a large number of dental issues. The porcelain is so fine and thin that it takes on many of the same qualities as the enamel of your teeth; even the look and feel. With porcelain veneers, your teeth will just look better, not different. Dental veneers are also very durable because like enamel, they are extremely hard. When you use dental veneers, not only will your smile look fantastic but will remain intact for a number of years as long as you take care of your teeth with proper oral hygiene and cleaning.
Can anyone get dental veneers?
Medically speaking, there are virtually no reasons why you cannot get dental veneers. There are rare cases when dental veneers are simply not the best treatment option or where it is not going to be possible to give a patient the dental veneers that he or she wants. More frequently, we have patients that do have underlying issues that need to treatment before we will proceed with the veneers. A patient may have an infection or a cavity that needs filling, which we need to treat before we start attaching the veneers. It is important to remember that these are exceptions rather than normal. For most patients getting dental veneers is almost as simple as getting regular teeth cleanings.
How are dental veneers attached?
Once we know that you have no issues that might affect your eligibility for dental veneers, we can proceed with making a custom set of veneers. The veneers will match the color of your teeth or the color you want them to be. Once we have the veneers back from the laboratory, we will start by shaving off a small portion of your tooth's enamel. Thus, the veneer fits flush with the rest of your tooth, providing you with a smooth surface that looks and feels like the surrounding teeth. We will then place the veneer in the correct spot. We will shape, mold and size the veneers to the perfect size, ensuring that they do not interfere with your bit. Once they are set up, we will cement them in.
What do dental veneers fix?
Veneers are a very versatile tool, which means they can be used for any number of things. Most commonly we use them to fix minor breaks, chips, and cracks in the tooth surface. In popular culture, dental veneers have become synonymous with a perfect smile and we can use them to whiten, straighten, and correct minor defects to your smile as well.
