A Long Beach New York Dentist Can Replace Your Missing Teeth

As a Long Beach New York dentist, we have embraced some of the most modern technology and scientific innovations that help you have a better-looking smile, stronger teeth, and the use of your teeth for as long as possible. There are many exciting technological advancements that have taken place in dentistry in recent years, none of which is more exciting than the use of dental implants to replace teeth that have been lost.

Dental Implants Are a Modern Solution to Tooth Loss

For decades, we have been using the same methods to replace lost teeth, most commonly dentures, which still require the use of adhesives or wires to stay in place. Dental implants, as used by your Long Beach New York dentist, have completely changed the philosophy we use when replacing teeth. Today, we are more focused on giving you a more natural-looking tooth that looks, feels, and acts exactly like the one you lost. An added benefit is that dental implants actually mimic the natural order of teeth, so you have a dental replacement, or dental prosthesis, that is almost identical to a naturally made tooth.

Dental Implants: Explaining the Solution

The dental implants used by our Long Beach New York dentist office, consist of three parts. The first is the dental implant itself, which is a microscopic titanium screw. This tiny screw is inserted directly into the jawbone in much the way your naturally occurring tooth root would find itself embedded in the jawbone, so it can provide the maximum amount of stability and security to the new fake tooth. The implant, which is what the screw is called, is made of titanium because of a process known as osseointegration. Osseointegration is a process by which titanium is able to fuse with natural matter, including the bone found in your jaw. This fusing helps the titanium actually act like part of the jawbone itself, again much like a naturally occurring root, providing an additional level of stability to the fake tooth we will be attaching.

The second piece of the implant is known as the abutment. This is a small piece of metal attached directly to the implant and is allowed to stick out slightly above the gum line. The abutment is what we will be attaching the dental crown to and provides the anchor between the dental crown, also called a fake tooth and your newly placed dental implant. There are numerous ways an abutment can be placed, so you should speak with your Long Beach New York dentist about the best placement for your particular situation.

Finally, as your Long Beach New York dentist, we will attach a dental crown to the dental implant. A dental crown is typically made of porcelain and is custom designed to look and feel exactly like your natural teeth. It is the dental crown that you will see when you look in the mirror with your brilliant new smile. The dental crown will be shipped, shaded, and placed so it fits in perfectly with the natural teeth surrounding it.
